“Still, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled—
to cast aside the weight of facts
and maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world.” ― Mary Oliver

This past year was a a busy year in terms of productivity, creativity and adventures. But like life itself, the year was also marked by unexpected and unwelcome visitors that challenged my personal sense of control, invulnerability, and predictability. It could best be characterized as an existential earthquake, similar to Elena Ferrante’s description of the 1980 earlquake that devastated much of Italy:
“I felt the days as if the light had become opaque and I perceived around me a widespread malaise.”
Each image I create expresses my emotional state at that time. The varied images from this past year create a sort of Rorschach test of these states, as I contemplated and experienced my many joys and my ‘malaise’. Fran Forman
